|seditiouscanary||01:52 pm - Suck|
So about 24 hours from when jenn flew to Taipei, I got hit by a car riding home from the Point 83 Tuesday night ride. I left the group and had just crossed the Montlake bridge when I got hit by a minivan. They didn't stop. Police at the scene think they caught them. EMTs walked me from the scene to the ER at UW's hospital. I have three stitches in the corner of my right eye, and four broken facial bones, road rash on my right elbow which looks more like carpet burn, and no bike. The police took it as evidence. I didn't get a good look at it, but the rear wheel is broken into pieces, and I suspect the frame is toast too. And I just built those wheels this week. Three fucking rides and toast. I got discharged at about 06:00 and cabbed it home.
I hurt, I am lonely, and I am cranky.
Ride careful kids.
Update: An arrest was made. Woo!
That sounds horrible. I'm so sorry. Take care of yourself and thank you for the heads up.
Minivans are so shady. I'm sorry you were hit and hurt!!! I, too, was hit by a mini van. It was last August in the bike lane on Mercer. I hope you get a good lawyer and everything works out. :(
Glad it wasn't worse, but I wish it hadn't happened at all!

That sucks!! God damned minivans! There must be something special about them. Both times I've been hit were by minivans.
So, you gonna be ok at home by yourself? Can feed self etc?
God damn it.
I bet the driver will make some bullshit excuse about being distracted by your rugged good looks, and bad-ass new wheels.
I hope you get paaaid.

damn. take care man. it always amazes me how many of the bike-car collisions I hear about are hit and runs. it's fucked up thinking half the people out there would try and run from an accident if they thought they could get away with it.
What others have echoed and what I've said on the forums. Fucked up son, sorry to hear it. You're a vet so you already know this, but call Bob Anderton (206 262 9290 or John Duggan 206 714 1085 - both are bike PI lawyers.
You and Kat need to quit using your faces to stop your bikes.

I'll put my recommendation in for John Duggan, he's taken care of two of my coworkers, working with insurance companies and insurance and whatnot to get them what they needed.
I know a few people who have used him too with great success, so he is who I am talking to now.
Ditto on John Duggan. He's my hero right now, working hard on helping me get paid for the permanent damage to my wrist. :(

Holy crap. Feel better soon.

i'm glad you're not crippled or dead, and I hope they get the chair.
I am sympathetic to you, but I am more angry at the ass-hats that did this!
I don't understand people. Karma will suck for them.
So sorry about those face bones. I hope they gave you some pain meds. Try to get some rest.

Bullll-shit. At least there's a bright side: Chicks totally dig scars.
Well, I've been married for 12 years, so I don't know how well that will work, but it's a great story to tell. Wish I had seen more of it.

Dude. Ow! Glad you're basically okay. Try to look past the pain to when you'll feel better. It won't seem that long when you're looking back at it in a year. (At least that's how it has worked for me. six weeks on crutches was like forever at the time, but not so bad to think about now.)
And congrats that they caught them. They probably won't get what they deserve, but closure is good.
Similar thing happened to me when I was down in SF for a while for work. No one was ever arrested. :/ Fortunately, there wasn't any lasting damage (that I know of).
Glad you're alive and in one piece, and yay for the bastard getting caught. I hope s/he gets prosecuted for the lame ass hit and run. :/
